Ayala Serfaty
Medium: Glass rods, polymer membrane, mixed media
Dimensions: 72 in high
Ayala Serfaty makes her ethereal, sculptural light fixtures by applying a diaphanous membrane over unique structural webs of thin, glass rods. In Nuraya, one of these is perched atop a surreal, simple floor lamp, held in place by two delicate, curved arms. It is not hard to imagine that as inspiration for these sculptures the Israeli artist looks to natural forms—crystals, Japanese gardens, and coral on the seabed floor.
