Opihi is the Hawaiian word for limpet, very common in Maui where De Wulf and his wife have lived for a number of years. The unusual height was kept over from a custom library table commissioned by a designer in Los Angeles. The scalloping characteristic to the opihi shell can be seen here on the tabletop, and continues down the leaning leg, endowing the piece a lovely cantilevered quality.
