Alizé, Console

France, circa 1970s (recent facture)

Medium: Hand-hammered steel; available with a forge black/brown finish or a copper or aluminum leaf finish

Dimensions: 31 in high x 48 in wide x 14 in deep

This console is drawn from the classic designs of Henri Pouenat, scion of the Pouenat workshops, who trained under his predecessor, famous designer Gilbert Pouenat. Cast in simple lines of forged, hand hammered steel, Alizé features an ornamental bifurcated branch, suspended horizontally just below the piece’s glass top and coated in copper leaf—a characteristic flourish in an otherwise exemplary piece of pared down modernism.
