Roger Desserprit spent his life in continuous pursuit of an ideal of beauty, truth, order, and harmony. In the 1960s and 1970s, the artist's strict focus on abstraction and geometry gave way to the use of softer lines, figuration, and lyricism—qualities particularly evident in his many cement, wood, or metal reliefs. In these, he felt he'd expressed himself almost spirituality. By abandoning the notions of measurement and technique central to his early works, Desserprit was able to achieve an effect in which light's interaction with space imbued each piece with a great, almost illusory sense of depth.
