Jin Soo Kim was born in Seoul in 1950, and came to the US in 1974.
The artist spends extended periods of intense manual labor, wrapping long lines of wire or gauze to build volumes and textured surfaces. By surrendering herself to this ritualistic process, her memories and impressions emerge. The material strands connect to her early life, and each work becomes a repository of time, experience and reflection.
Within the works are the movements of particulars... the minuscule and the considerable... balm applied to the disfigurement of our phenomena... paths and graces random and unknowable. - Shayle Miller
Jin Soo Kim has exhibited widely, including the Brooklyn Museum, Walker Art Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago Cultural Center, and Neuberger Museum of Art, among many others.
