André Arbus
Medium: Polished beech wood, bronze sabots, original leather
Dimensions: 38.75 in high x 32 in wide x 31.5 in deep
Created in several sizes, this set of chairs was part of a project André Arbus undertook with fellow designer Jacques Adnet to redecorate the Palais des Consuls de Rouen in 1956. The chairs, though unique, are—with their broad, swooping lines and stately aesthetic weight—as fine a specimen as exists of Arbus’ pared down neoclassicism.
