Gilbert Poillerat, who trained at l'école Boulle, and was a disciple of the great Edgar Brandt, became, himself, one the the premier French metal workers of Art Deco period and one of most interesting furniture designers of the mid 20th century. His signature aesthetic, which centered upon the elegance of tensile strength, is as evident here in this lovely center table as in his larger-scale commissions as a ferronnier, such as the facade he executed for the synagogue de la paix in Strasbourg.
