Description

Wood, metal

Height: 60" - Width: 22" - Depth: 43"

This extraordinary depression-era pinball machine came from the personal collection of Thierry Despont (1948 - 2023), perhaps best known for his architectural practice—which played integral roles in the restoration of the Statue of Liberty, re-imagining of the Ritz in Paris, and designing the interiors of the Getty Center—and for his notable private clients like Bill Gates and Calvin Klein. He was also an avid, omnivorous, and—above all—imaginative collector. Throughout his life, he acquired furniture and objects from very different periods and in a broad array of styles, relishing the unexpected dialogues juxtaposing works and complementary pieces made among themselves.  The machine is restored to playable condition. The skyscraper appears on no other known examples.
