An extraordinary piece, Brunelleschi Arches exhibits Kiko Lopez's mastery of the near-forgotten practice of églomisé, and his dedication to employing age-old methods to create singular and innovative works of art. With this abstract composition of well-ordered arches, Lopez plays with a form which has long captured the European imagination. As always, integral to the work is his fascination with the tension between empty and full, object and space. "Dark areas are usually emptiness and light areas are objects, but in my mirror paintings, they are ambiguous. Lighter areas may be monoliths or passages, darker areas doors or background. I want to create the experience of mirrored reflections shifting within morphing, pluri-dimensional planes."
